SINGAPORE — Singapore will hold its presidential election on Sept. 1, the elections department announced on Friday, after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong signed off on a poll for the largely ceremonial post.
Applicants must receive a certificate of eligibility and meet other requirements before the nomination day on Aug. 22, when the candidates are to be announced. If there is only one eligible person, the election will be a walkover.
