Dogs, gongs, awkward red carpet moments – the Baftas was full of memorable moments and accolades for Irish stars and filmmakers. Here we look at some of the standout moments from the night
First things first – Cork born Cillian Murphy scooped the Best Actor award for his role in Oppenheimer. “Oh boy, holy moly, thank you very, very much Bafta,” he said as he picked up the award before graciously thanking director Christopher Nolan. He also paid tribute to all his co-stars whom he christened “Oppenhomies” (which is a lot more fun to say than Barbieheimer). Later, in a press briefing, he wondered if he should sing a rebel song to demonstrate how proud he was as an Irish man. Most film critics believe that his win here indicates the Oscar statue is just within grasp.
